Why Am I in Pain?

Why am I in pain?

Is it calling me to see that which I want not to see

Or is it for me to let go of the pain that does not belong to me?

My abdomen hurts.

I’m bloated and I’m tired.

My back is heavy with an ache that won’t go away.

It’s like I’m pregnant, heavy with a weight

But I’m not… I’m just feeling burdened with a gnawing pain.

I feel the pain, the fear, the worry and the grief

Of my loved one whose pain I want to take away

But the pain is not mine so what right do I have

To think I am justified to carry his pain,

Thinking I can carry it better than he

While unjustly I take his right away.

Finding the courage to let go of my own beliefs

Nodding my head in humility

To honor him through his much needed journey

I stand grounded on my two feet

Supporting him as he processes his agony.

Learning not to take on his suffering

‘Cause it’s not mine

Not mine to heal.

As difficult as it may be

I let go and return his pain

Telling him I am here

Right here holding him

I am right here loving him

I’m committed to accompany him.

He feels safe, supported ready to release

His long-standing pain,

A pain that perhaps does not belong to him.

He finally let’s go

And now he feels free

And now I am free

Of a pain with no more purpose,

Pain that is empty

That no longer has a home.

Much higher we begin to resonate

As our spiritual capacity grows larger

Our love elevating beyond the earth

United our souls soar stronger

Our physical pain is gone

My bloating resolved and the back hurts no more

‘Cause we (I) learnt to release a deeper pain

One that perhaps began before birth

But now serving us (me) no longer!
